Dear friends:

As the new President of the Haitian American Associate for Advancement (HAAFA), I am proud of our heritage, our culture and everything about our history.  We all need to search our souls and answer the following question, ”Are you truly proud of who you are?”

In honoring our heritage, the remarkable, courageous men such as Toussaint Louverture and Jean Jacques Dessalines, we must do more than passively displaying the Haitian flag in our cars, desks at work or any places which categorize us as being proud Haitians.

Do our actions prove that we care or are we simply expressing words of pride?  We are still enslaved in our minds because we allow ourselves to remain individualistic instead of being a united people.

Let us stop believing that the solution to our problems lies in the hands of others.  It is time to truly bring the spirit of unity and harmony in our community.  If we cannot change when conditions require it, why should we expect anything more from the next generation?

On Saturday, November 17, 2012, we had hosted HAAFA’s 20th Year Anniversary Dinner.  The event took place at Maggiano’s Little Italy’s Ball Room at 10367 Midtown Pkwy, Jacksonville, FL 32216. The event featured Celebration Band, Comedian, Ms. Dee,  Precious Angels, Dr. Michel and much more.  I greatly appreciated everyone’s support.

Let’s be hungry for courage, hope, advancement and above all unity as a people.

Be proud, you’re Haitian.

Mrs. R. Wilson, President of HAAFA
